Ricardo Kim is a visual artist and graphic designer, a first-generation member of a Korean family, born and raised in Argentina.
His interest in art and visuals began at a very young age. Art was introduced to him as a form of play by his mother, Park Soon Sil, who is also a painter and artist. When he was around 10 years old, he briefly attended a Korean art academy in Buenos Aires, which was run by artists Kim Yun Shin and Kim Ran, who were friends of his mother and continue to be his mentors. While he learned classical methods of painting and drawing at the academy, he never had a formal education in the arts; instead, he has been mostly self-taught. Throughout his development, he has always explored different forms of artistic expression, from music to visuals.
As a result of his graphic design education (graduated with honors from FADU - UBA in Argentina), he has become proficient in using digital tools to create and develop his works. Drawing from his bicultural background (Argentinian and Korean), he delves into various concepts, such as identity, the human condition, the sense of community, among others. Additionally, he draws inspiration from pop culture, occasionally incorporating references from it into his art to create and "play." His artistic approach often involves surreal methodologies and abstractions, allowing him to express and showcase his artworks in unique ways.
